In order to bridge the price and performance gap between the top-selling OTO SE integrated amplifier and the Meishu 300B based integrated amplifier, Audio Note UK has recently introduced the Signature version of the OTO SE.

Available in both line and phono versions, the OTO SE Signature features a number of upgraded components like copper-foil oil caps and tantalum resistors in all critical positions, ribbon signal wire upgraded to silver and very importantly, output transformers are upgraded from standard IE M4 to double C-core IHiB.

The result is an OTO SE with more guts and dynamics as well as more transparency and refinement – a very difficult combination of qualities to pull off! Still ‘only’ rated at 10 watts per channel, the Signature sounds subjectively a lot more powerful due to the higher power transfer of its higher quality output transformers. Bass is also deeper, more impactful and with better definition than the standard version.

We have one unit on demo right now in our showroom, so for anyone looking for an affordably priced top class one box amplifier, the OTO SE Signature is a definite “must” to audition!

Hot on the heels of the Triton winning The Absolute Sound’s “Product of the Year” award, in the January 2012 issue of Stereophile magazine, Michael Framer has written what basically amounts to a rave review of the ground-breaking Shunyata Triton power conditioner.

The article goes into some detail regarding the technologies, research and unique equipment used (eg. The DTCD Analyser) that went into the Triton to make it such an unbeatable product. For the first time, Shunyata is able to take measurements of what the ear actually hears when music is being played through any system. The Triton is the first product that is designed from the ground up, making use of such measurements and not only based on trial and error!

    What’s new inside the Triton?

Only the electro-magnetic circuit breaker and the 8 AC outlets are similar to the previous generation V Ray. Everything else from the filtering system, buss bars, internal wiring and chassis structure are completely different. The new MPDA filter 30-element array employs NO capacitors at all!

What advantages can you expect to hear?

Unlike every other conditioner (regardless of price or reputation) before it, the Triton does not restrict current in any way. So in addition to the traditional Shunyata strengths of a totally black background, excellent resolution of spatial cues, enhanced 3-dimensionality and recovery of acoustic space, the Triton excels in producing music with extremely fast transients and wide dynamic contrast, and with a sense of ease that is simply unheard of in the past.

It is interesting that in the review, Michael Framer plugged in a pair of the MBL 9011 monoblocks into the Triton and describes hearing” improvements in transparency, spatiality, and resolution of low-level detail were obvious, as were the greater grace and cleanness (but not “filteriness”) of the transients. Most ridiculous, though, was that it all sounded louder.”

Finally, I can listen with a Shunyata Research conditioner in my system and not tell myself “It’s worth the trade-off.” There’s no trade-off. The filtering is effective and doesn’t leave any kind of residue, sonic or measured. Instead, the music emerges, clarified, from deep black space, with transients that are neither smoothed over nor exaggerated with etch. Transparency and overall coherence reach an exalted state.”

The first of a number of eagerly anticipated reviews on AMR’s newest product, the DP-777 high definition DAC is just out, and if this is anything to go by, we have a real winner on our hands! Click on the link below to read the full article.
This review by Computer Audiophile is especially useful as it compares a number of the hottest USB equipped DACs in the market today, listing the pros and cons of each. We are really happy to find out that the AMR came out on top, even against much more expensive and illustrious competition! This reaffirms our initial feelings that the DP-777 is truly a special DAC product that follows closely in the footsteps of AMR’s earlier offerings, the highly acclaimed CD-77 and CD-777 CD players.
The DP-777 also features variable output control and 2 analogue line inputs that enable it to be used as a full function line-stage preamp. Both features can be de-activated for purists to want to use only the DAC function.
In the coming months, more reviews will be appearing from magazines like Sound & Vision (Greece), Stereoplay (Germany), Stereophile (USA), HiFi+ (UK) and Digital Audio Blog (e-zine).
We invite anyone who is looking for a high quality USB DAC to drop by for an audition of this seriously innovative product and be impressed at the quality of the music that it can produce from a humble computer source!
