AVANTGARDE
ACOUSTICS  For
the first time in Singapore, you can experience the awesome sound of the
latest Avantgarde DUO 2.2 horn speakers. This is the newest incarnation
of the DUO, only with higher sensitivity (104dB), faster bass, wider dynamics,
more fluid and more coherent overall presentation due to extensive tweaking
of the crossover and built-in bass power amp. If you’re longing for the ‘live music’ experience in your own listening room, then you’ve got to audition the new DUOs. We promise that you can’t live with anything less after that experience. |

RESEARCH Hot on the heels of the very successful
Hydra 8 power conditioner, comes the latest Hydra
6
and Hydra
2.
Featuring 6 and 2 AC outlets respectively, these units offer most of the
original Hydra’s state-of-the-art performance, but at a fraction
of its cost!  Personally, we expect the Hydra 6 to be a hot seller as it
features similar Hydra 8 features like cryogenically treated Venom silver-plated
outlets, massive solid silver buss system and the Trident
Defense System that provides an awesome 60,000-amps of peak current protection with Carling’s
best hydraulic electromagnetic breaker. This allows the Hydra 6 to
deliver virtually unlimited user flexibility by combining high-current
capability with Shunyata’s passive form of noise reduction and system
protection.Also new are Shunyata’s Copperhead, Taipan Vx and Python Alpha and Vx power cords. We expect all items to be available by the time you read this. |

ANALOGUE  There are no new models this year, but
we just couldn’t resist announcing that the Horizon,
Nottingham’s entry-level model, has just been awarded the prestigious “Analogue
Source of the Year” by the Absolute Sound magazine! Here are some
comments: “It does draw you into the music by revealing the flow,
texture, and harmonic nuances of musical lines. And that, at US$1000 (including
an easy-to-like tonearm), says a lot”. The ever-popular Spacedeck/Spacearm combo
also got into TAS’s Recommended Components listing with such
comments: “From its ultra-quiet backdrop to its mastery of pace
and space, explosive and agile dynamics, harmonic integrity, tonal continuity,
saturated images, and deep yet nimble bass, this combo won SH over”. What more can we say! |

AUDIO  In the wake of the tremendous success
of Zanden Audio’s Model
5000
tube DAC, comes their matching CD transport called the Model 2000. Designed
to challenge the current state-of-the-art in digital technology, the Model
2000 is truly a work of love from designer K. Yamada.
