During its three-year
production cycle, Shunyata Research's HYDRA power
distribution center became the most critically acclaimed product
of its kind, receiving awards and accolades from every publication
that reviewed it. Punctuating the HYDRA's critical acclaim was
the award of "Product Of The Year" from the UK
magazine HiFi+, in March of 2003
Media notoriety proved to be only the beginning for HYDRA’s
success. Within two years of its release, HYDRA became the power-line
reference used by preeminent music and film industry studios,
mastering engineers and recording artists from around the world.
Defining endorsements also came from many of the entertainment
industry’s finest electronics manufacturers, who continue
to utilize HYDRA for critical design, listening and a multitude
of trade-show systems.
 Clearly,
no other product in its genre has been accorded the unqualified
respect and endorsement of those at the forefront of the professional
and consumer audio and video industries.
Design Evolution
During production of the original HYDRA, former NSA scientist
and Shunyata founder, Caelin Gabriel continued the development
and refinement of the Hydra concept. As improved parts were developed
and custom processes evolved – it became clear that a redesign
would be necessary to incorporate the sheer number of improvements
and new technologies.
The new HYDRA Model-8 incorporates a number of new features and
